Tuesday

Today was back to real life for me after the big knit off this weekend (my team won, by the way!). I didn't have much time for knitting what with writing a paper and reading a novel for my book review that's due tomorrow. I finished one of the ugly socks and hope to finish the other before I leave for Chicago on friday. Unfortunately, I didn't get to knit on my sweater in knitting club today because my finance committee meeting ran long. Drat. Hopefully this knitter is a little more exciting tomorrow.

Done!

After knitting nearly non-stop all weekend and trying to fit in schoolwork on the side, my Socktopia Knit Off socks are finally done! I'm happy with how they turned out. A little blocking and they should look pretty nice. They're a little big for me so I think I'll give them to my mom. After all, she just bought me a digital camera! The blog will have photos soon enough!

I really liked the pattern and can't wait to knit more by the same designer. Her 'Brigit' is absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to get my hands on some sock yarn to knit it with.

The ugly socks will get more attention this week. I'd like to finish them before I leave for Chicago so I can bring a new project with me.

The Lopi sweater still hasn't been touched. I'm going to bring it to Knit Wits tomorrow night so hopefully I'll make some progress there.

Now it's off to bed with me. I have a neglected paper to write in the morning.

Back from the Sick

Once again I haven't reached my post quotient but this time I have a good excuse. I've been pretty under the weather lately. I missed all four of my classes and all three of my meetings on Tuesday for sitting on the couch in a daze. Since then I've been feeling better but my eyes are still kind of glazed over and sittinng through classes is pretty difficult.

When I realized that I was going to need a sick day I hoped it meant some big time knitting but things didn't work out the way I planned. I didn't get any knitting until tuesday night, when I worked on the lopi sweater through Spiderman 2 and an episode of Queer as Folk. I didn't get very far on the length but I got about half of the fair isle on the back done. It's turning out to be more complicated than I expected. Even though there are only two colors in the pattern for each row, I have to carry the main color along every row for the decreases. It gets to be pretty thick and I'm a bit worried about how it's going to effect the end product. Admittedly, the wrong side of my work doesn't look so great, but the floats are looking more tidy with every row. I'm still learning.

The socks haven't made much progress because they're travel socks and I haven't been doing very much travelling. The heel was turned on Monday and I didn't pick up the gusset until today. Oh well, lots of sock knitting will get done this weekend.

Liar, Liar

Well, I lied. I spent my spring break evenings on the couch with my man and we normally fell asleep to a movie and then stumbled upstairs in the wee hours. This hurt the blogging.

I've joined a few sock knitting groups because I love knitting them in class. Right now I'm making some crazy ones using the leftover purple from my last pair for the cuff, heel and toe. I just turned the heel on the first one today.

The sweater is coming along slowly but surely. I'm a few rows into the fair isle at the top and it's a little tricky. It only has two colors per row but I have to drag the main color along the whole way for the decreases, which I didn't really think about before I started. It's a pain.

I celebrated St. Patrick's day at a local pub with my man and a knitting friend. We got some comments from some mildly drunk guys at the bar--they were just fascinated with my friend's Norwegian cap (newly finished, yay!) and my man thinks that if we had stayed a bit longer they would have bought us drinks!

I'm revving up for a sock knit off this weekend. I picked up my yarn today and will be borrowing movies from friends over the course of the week in preparation. I'm really excited to finish a pair of socks in a weekend. I don't care if I'm the last one to finish: I'm going to make that deadline.

Still no camera but I'll at least borrow one for the knit off.

Spring Break Resolution

Once again it has been a long time since I've blogged. That's not cool. I've decided to write a little more often...at least every weekday so that I have a chance at getting some more knitting done. Hopefully the fear of writing that I've only knit one row that day will get me behind the needles a little more.

Still no digital camera (sigh). I may have found one in my price range but until then my blog remains sadly without pictures. As soon as I get a hold of a camera I'll photograph absolutely everything that I've mentioned so far.

The alpaca scarf is done and I love it! It is so soft and the colors are gorgeous but subdued. The tension still seems a little funny but I think that may be the yarn and not me.

I started my Reynolds lopi sweater. I'm scared to death. I've only knit one sweater before and that was for a baby and was done in one piece with the sleeves picked up. This is the real deal, with seams and all. I think I'm going to pick up a book on finishing techniques to get it right. I know knitting mistakes are all part of the fun and all, but I also want this to look really nice.

Snow

You would think that with a freaking blizzard I would get more knitting done. I haven't. I did, however, spend around six hours with Steve shovelling out our nine car driveway. That left me a little too sore to knit.

I finished the purple socks and I'm loving them. The book is just too great-I can pick any pattern and yarn that I want and size it for my feet! I'll be making another pair soon but I don't think I'll use the same yarn.

The alpaca scarf is moving along well. My tension was really messed up at the beginning because I'm basically relearning how to knit but it's gotten better. I worked on it last night during the poetry slam and that was a ton of fun.

It's been a while...

Well, it's been almost two weeks since I last posted and I've certainly been busy. I helped my fiance's family move into their new house, which was a bit taxing and my sorority wrapped up recruitment.

I started a sweater for my current favorite baby cousin but it's turning out to take a little longer than I feel like spending on it. I think I'll frog it and find something more interesting to work on. Maybe one of the million other projects that I have yarn for.

I got the book Sensational Knitted Socks and I absolutely adore it. It has basic patterns that let you choose any yarn and stitch pattern that you want...I don't think I'll ever buy another sock book. I'm working on a four stitch pattern out of Plymouth Encore #2426. All I have to do is graft the toe and weave in ends on the second one and I'm done!

I've been wondering why my circular knitting 'torques' all the time and I finally got up the nerve to go to my LYS for help. Apparently I've been knitting wrong! I twist every stitch. If only someone had told me sooner! The only solution, of course, was to get Blue Skys Alpaca to knit a scarf and relearn the right way.

Still don't have a digital camera, so the blog remains pictureless.
